Nokia has finally rolled out the Windows Phone 7.8 upgrade for its older Lumia smartphones including Nokia Lumia 510, 610, 710, 800 and the Lumia 900. The upgrade has been rolled out throughout the globe but unlocked phones will get it first, followed by operator locked handsets as the later has to customize the update for better performance.
To check for the update, connect your phone to the computer via Zune for PC, or the Windows Phone app for Mac and follow the onscreen instructions to get the upgrade.
The Windows Phone 7.8 upgrade brings nice user interface related changes to the devices and will try to give the older devices a new Windows Phone 8 like look and feel. Among the features that the new OS will bring include a new Start screen, the sharing of the calendar using the function Club and access to key services and content Microsoft, including Xbox Music Store library that can be enjoyed by Zune and Xbox SmartGlass.
Along with major system updates, there has been a stream of exciting new features introduced to Nokia Lumia devices specifically. These include Internet sharing (WiFi hotspot), Bluetooth file sharing, imaging enhancements like Camera Extras, and the release of apps such as Contact Share, Play To and Nokia City Lens that will be made available within the upgrade itself.
